Pharmacy College Accreditation Recognized

A pharmacy college in Canada is now recognized as an accredited institution for its pharmacy programs and curriculum. The Qatar University College of Pharmacy received accreditation from the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada this month, making it a recognized institution internationally.

(Ame Info) …The move by the PEBC recognizes the College’s BSc (Pharm) graduates as graduates of a pharmacy program accredited by the Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs (CCAPP).

In practice, this means that they will not be required to sit the PEBC Pharmacist Evaluating Examination but will be permitted direct entry to the PEBC Pharmacist Qualifying Examination, which is typically reserved for pharmacy graduates in Canada and the USA.

The PEBC will also deliver Part 1 of its Pharmacist Qualifying Examination in Qatar on a pilot basis. This will take place in November, allowing CPH students to sit the exam in Doha, making it the first time it will be delivered outside of North America, and which, if successful, will be repeated annually.

CPH Dean Dr Peter Jewesson heralded the recognition, saying, “This is a very important milestone for our new program, the university and for Qatar-Canada relations. Under the new National Health Strategy, Qatar seeks to improve health care outcomes for its citizens by improving services and research aimed at improving the effectiveness and quality of health care. The college plays an important role in this initiative.”

“Benchmarking our program against Canadian standards through the CCAPP program accreditation and the PEBC competency standards is an important component of our strategic planning and reflects our commitment to continuous quality improvement,” he added.

QU Vice President and Chief Academic Officer Dr Sheikha bint Jabor Al-Thani praised the College’s efforts in developing its stature and its continued pursuit for quality and excellence.
